E. A. Crowell's House & Garden, Franklin, 1956


E. A. Crowell was the principal of Franklin Senior High from 1931 until his retirement in 1950. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in secondary education from Louisiana State University at the age of 36. At the age of 48, he went on to earn his Masters from Vanderbilt Peabody College in Nashville. Crowell attended classes during the summer while teaching the rest of the year to obtain his degrees. A native of Unionville, Tennessee, he taught in Tennessee, Oklahoma, Florida and Louisiana. Upon his retirement, he took up gardening, and his home won the garden of the month in May 1956. His pet boxer, "Rocky Von Crow" is pictured. The house is located at 710 1st Street.
