St. Mary Parish Courthouse, Franklin
Governor William C. C. Claiborne established St. Mary Parish on April 17, 1811. The residents of St. Mary Parish initially used private residences as a courthouse. By 1820, the Louisiana State Legislature designated Franklin as the parish seat, and citizens constructed a wooden court building. It was later replaced in 1850 by a Greek Revival-style building. However, by 1906, the courthouse had deteriorated and was no longer safe, prompting its replacement with a Romanesque courthouse in 1908. Finally, in 1970, citizens replaced the courthouse with a modern, practical structure built to withstand 150 m.ph. hurricane winds. It is located at 501 Main Street.
During the construction period of the courthouse from 1967-1970, Ory Miguez took numerous photographs.
