A&P, Franklin, 1992

On August 2, 1955, the A&P Super Market (Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co.) celebrated its grand opening at its new location in the Blakesly Shopping area on 1006 Main Street. The store had relocated from 712 Main Street and was managed by Joseph Vaccarella. The new location boasted a frozen foods section, which was a new product in high demand, and a larger parking lot. Later, on October 28, 1968, A&P held another grand opening at its new location in the Brown-Castille shopping center at 1812 Main Street. A&P, established in 1859, was once the largest grocer in the United States; however, it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2010 and eventually closed in 2015. Ory Miguez captured these photos for a law firm.
