Louis Wormser Department Store, Franklin, 1967

Louis Wormser arrived in the United States in 1904, at the age of sixteen, after immigrating from Marmoutier, Alsace (near Strasbourg, France). Along with his brother Justin, they worked for their uncle in Jeanerette. Later in 1910, the brothers started a store in Baldwin. Thereafter, in 1927, Louis Wormser established the Louis Wormser department store at 605 Main Street, which offered a range of high-quality brand name clothing for men, women, and children. Wormser's closed in the late 1990s.
