Line 13: Experiencing Migrations

Beijing Metro Line 13 was the third subway line built in the city. It forms a north-facing U that connects Xizhimen to Dongzhimen stations.

It represents migration as it leaves the city and goes out into the northern suburbs, close to where fields hit. Passes through migrant enclaves.

Also the station near the universities, where I lived. And where many foreign migrants (students, etc. ) come to Beijing. It passes near the Wudaokou neighborhood on one side, Wangjing (Korean area) on the other.

This path will explore the ways that Beijing is a city that contains different types of migration: the internal, the education oriented, the foreign. How migration connects the remote rural regions of China with the rest of the global world. Students come to study in Beijing from many countries. Managers who come to work. And everyone in between.
