L.A. Songs: Desperados Under the Eaves

This is the L.A. song that I have been listening to most recently, imaging Warren sitting in the Hollywood Hawaiian Motel, drinking all the "salty margaritas in L.A." It captures some of the doom and gloom of being in Paradise, the emotional landscape of cheap Hollywood, and the crazy environmental balance of living in L.A. that Mike Davis described so well in Ecology of Fear. There is something so vivid, and humorous from Zevon's cynical drunk narration, about the lines: "and if California slides into the ocean/like the mystics and statistics say it will/I predict this motel will be standing, until I pay my bill".

It is where you hope you never end up in L.A., but at the same time makes you want a salty margarita and to sit back and watch L.A. slide into the ocean.
