Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

"The Morning Light is Breaking" (Eddy #103)—words by George T. Angell, music by H. Kotzschmar. Written by the founder of the American Bands of Mercy, these words celebrate the morning when “darkness disappears” also as a metaphor for the “Bands of Mercy coming” (v.1) who march for “kindness and protection / To beast, and bird, and man” (v. 4). This kindness is an additional metaphor for a global “reign of kindness” (v. 1) and “peace on earth appears” (v. 2). With a fast rhythm with sixteenth-note runs and an engaging melody, it is a fun song to sing.
