Transgender People

Transgender people are individuals whose gender identity does not align with the sex they were assigned at birth. Some transgender people may identify as non-binary, genderqueer, or another gender identity beyond the traditional binary of male and female. Though transgender people have been historically present in many cultures, today they face significant challenges and discrimination due to societal stigma, prejudice, and lack of legal protections. They are disproportionately impacted by violence, harassment, and marginalization, especially transgender women of color. Transgender advocacy organizations and activists work to raise awareness, advocate for policy changes, and promote acceptance and inclusion of transgender people in society. Increased visibility and representation of transgender individuals in media, politics, and other arenas have begun to challenge stereotypes and promote understanding.
