Mapping Indigenous Poetry of North America, 1830-1924

William Walker Jr.

William Walker Jr. (Wyandot) was born in 1800 and lived until 1874. His mother was from an influential Wyandot family, and his father was a white man. He went to a mission school in Ohio and then to Kenyan College. He was a slave-holder but served the Union during the Civil War. This racist history is a complex context for the message of the poem included here.
