Company 1586 came into being on July 1,1935 as a cadre of 12 men detached to parent Company 515, Martinsville, Indiana, but was shortly disbanded.

The company was placed on an inactive statue and the enrollees transferred, on paper, back to Company 515, which camp they had never actually left.

The company was reborn on August 5,1935, but attached to Co. 515 for rations and quarters, still a cadre of 12 men. Seventeen days later 11 men were added and the completed cadre moved to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indiana.

On September 14,1935 the company with and enrollment strength of 215, mainly Kentuckians, left for Bedford, Indiana. Like Arabs, they folded their tents and silently stole away to permanent quarters at Mitchell, Indiana on November 30. 1935. Here the company performed heroically during the 1937 Ohio River Flood, when truck drivers worked day and night delivering food and supplies to the flood stricken people.

In December of 1937, Company 1586 left Mitchell, Indiana and headed for Bozeman, Montana and arrived in Camp Squaw Creek, F-57 just a few days before Christmas. Here they have resided continuously since.

Participating in many forest fires the company was commended by the regional forester for its brilliant performance at the Chico fire on the Absaroka National Forest. Several times they have been called out to hunt parties lost in the mountains, in each case getting their man.

Company 1586 is commanded by William K. Wood, and the subaltern is Henry C. MacQueen.
