Agency through Otherness: Portraits of Performers in Circus Route Books, 1875-1925

Japanese Performers

This tag represents the exhibit author's unofficial variant of the LCSH tag "Foreign workers, Japanese" (https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2007010570.html). We find the official heading offered by LCSH is limiting and unnecessarily othering of non-citizen performers from Japan, who were often denied the opportunity to pursue citizenship by racist US foreign policy.
