Simulacra
Humans tend to see the real world in their own way. We make reality into something else, either unconsciously or because we want to make things better and easier. This is where simulacra comes in; it represents reality to the point of substituting it. Instead of being a copy of reality, it’s a way to interpret it, to understand it. Baudrillard goes deeper into the word and gives a detailed and materialistic definition of it, referring to it as a collection of signs and symbols. However, what matters to me is the big picture, and in my opinion simulacra is a messenger sent by reality. We never get to meet reality or see how he actually composed the message. What we have to do is to perceive realty by interpreting the message, a message that was manipulated by the messenger but still carries the original idea. Thus to us, the messenger created the idea and simulacra becomes reality.
We often see what we want to see. That’s why you can’t find something you’re not looking for. So what we perceive as real is just what we make of reality but not reality itself, or is it?
