Into the Forest

The art piece that I chose for my final project is Into the
Forest presented by Open Ended Group in 2011, who also created Ghostcatching in
collaboration with Bill T. Jones. In the piece a stereoscopic 3D painting-like
image of a forest that is continuously changing floats away from the screen and
interacts with the viewer. One can see children that are playing inside the
forest and exploring it. What makes this piece interactive is that the viewer
will occasionally become part of the piece and see his reflection, as something
similar to a shadow, inside the forest .This is achieved by means of a
spotlight that turns on and off for a certain period of time. The experience
that Open Ended Group wants to provide is one in which the viewer gets immersed
in an atmosphere filled with the beauty and simplicity of children playing in a
natural and pure setting.
