Because our print book focuses on early works of interactive and media-rich born-digital art and writing, we have extended it with multimedia content in this open-source book. In this way concepts that may be unfamiliar, such as multilinks or the tinker and bell keys, are illustrated with video clips, a 2D animation, or other media formats to help augment an understanding of them. Readers will find six different types of media assets—all represented by easily recognizable, custom icons—and, so, know in advance the kind of media they will experience.
Image - A photograph, a computer generated graphic or illustration, a screenshot of media on a computer screen, or a figure featured in the print book
Animation - A series of generated or 2 or 3 dimensional images played consecutively to create the illusion of movement or change over time
Video - A video recorded through external hardware such as a camera, captured using the software in the same digital environment as the media being captured, or a custom-produced for the project
Chart - Words organized in a textbox that convey an idea
Audio Recording - Auditory content captured via microphone
Book - The print book this multimedia book accompanies
