The Challenges of Born-Digital Fiction: Editions, Translations, and Emulations: The Multimedia Accompaniment to the Print Edition

Entry for afternoon in WorldCat

While an important scholarly resource, WorldCat often does not convey the specificity needed for born-digital media. When researching Joyce's afternoon, a story for "An Afternoon with afternoon," for example, Grigar found that the image for the liner of the CD-ROM editions was used for an entry for the works' floppy disks editions that pre-date the CD-ROM editions by a decade. As this image shows, the novel's publication date is listed as 1987. This date actually reflects the year when Joyce showed the beta version to participants of Hypertext '87 and, so, does not represent the date when the work was released to the public by Eastgate Systems, Inc., which is listed as the publisher.
