Since its inception in 1971, the Women's Studies Program in Fort Wayne has focused on education in both the academic as well as the pubic sphere. This timeline includes developments in the Fort Wayne Women's Studies program from its grassroots origins to the institutionalization of the first B.A. in Women's Studies offered at a major public university in Indiana.

20th anniversary of Women's Studies Program at IPFW and the 10th Anniversary of the Center for Women and Returning Adults at IPFW. Over 100 students have graduated through the Women's Studies Program in its first 20 years. An anniversary celebration commemorating the first 20 years, "A Wedge in Time", is held to showcase the achievements of the first twenty years degrees in Women's Studies at IPFW.
Fort Wayne Women's Bureau hosts Gloria Steinem and Margaret Sloan for Women's Week at IPFW. Steinem meets with local feminists at her hotel so she can "get the lay of the land and kick ass and name names." Participants include Jeanne Echrich (Chair) Norma Shepelak, Peggy Wellin, Joanne Lantz, Barbara Knight (of the women's political caucus), Cathryn Adamsky, Helen Lee, Sally Williams, Marthe Rosenfeld, and Miki Kepes.
