Hamilton sends out a letter titles the "Reynolds Pamphlet" that depicts the details about his and Maria Reynolds affair. Jefferson and Madison are thrilled because they spend the whole song bragging that Hamilton is "never gon be President". Angelica arrives at the Hamilton household to inform Alexander that he messed up the best thing he ever had and she is there for her sister and not him. Hamilton's name is ruined in eyes of the public. 

As dramatic as this situation is, they song it's self is sort of comical in a way. Although Alexander knows he is doing the right thing, he now must deal with his ruined legacy and the ridiculousness of a bragging Thomas Jefferson. It is the age old notion that things have to get very ugly before they can get better. Alexander is living that in a seriously ridiculous way.
