Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

Eliza reads about the affair and sits by the fire will all the letters Alexander has written her. She questions and re accounts her love for him by herself. As she speaks she burns all of the letters with the kind words he "said" to her. She ends this haunting song with the phrase "I hope that you burn".
This is one of the only songs where it is one single character. Usually the ensemble or other characters say one or two things in the background, but this song it is just get and the light center stage, shaming what Alexander has done. It is a beyond powerful that she uses the words "said" and "I'm" because she is recounting what was talked about but is now going about the individual's way with the use of the word "I'm". It is a powerful moment that shows the bubbly, supportive Eliza, will not go about hiding. Instead she changes her own story by not wanting to be part of Alexander's.
