Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

After Laurens fires his weapon at Lee, there is a moment of celebration between the boys because they fought for what they believe in and won. However the happiness ends when Burr and Washington approach the situation to scold them for their immature actions. Washington pulls Hamilton aside to tell him that his actions are far too drastic and that he needs to take a break. Hamilton is dismissed from the fighting.
This scene heavily involves Washington and Hamilton's relationship from friends to now more like father and son relationship (hence why one of the common words is "son"). For many of the prior scenes, the audience sees Hamilton rising above his position to create his legacy, until now. As Hamilton pushes the edge and yells at Washington to not call him "son" because he did not have a father and it makes him lesser. Burr is around during this scene because he is next in line is Hamilton does not meet expectations. Although it is still a turning point in the war, it is a turning point for Hamilton, keeping the audience fascinated and rooting for him to get back on his feet. This is a common character/story part to see the main character in a moment of weakness. This is the first one of many for the still young Alexander Hamilton.
