Cleopatra, Ballet by Michael Fokine

h

Ida Rubenstein first performed Cleopatra on June 2nd, 1909. She was not the original Cleopatra: she had to compete with other dancers for the title role, which she eventually won, even though she had fewer credentials than the other dancers. Although no footage exists of Ida Rubenstein dancing Cleopatra, a modern reproduction of the ballet was performed on June 28, 2012 at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. Her legacy and impact live on in current performances.
