Cleopatra
Although no footage exists of Ida Rubenstein dancing in 1909, a modern reproduction of the ballet is shown above from June 28, 2012 at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. The production of Cleopatra became a success when Rubenstein took the stage over a century ago and her legacy and impact live on in current performances.
Ida Rubenstein first performed Cleopatra on June 2nd, 1909, which was not the opening day for the production. Rubenstein had to compete with other dancers for who would eventually star in the ballet, but even with fewer credentials than the other dancers, she was given the title role.
