Bodies: A Digital Companion

Radical Awakenings: Introduction and Contents

Welcome to COR 240 - Bodies: Radical Awakening! In this course we will explore the conditions in which "The Body" in Western culture becomes disciplined, commodified, apathologized and stigmatized. We will explore the influence of Western/Euro-centric beliefs, values and epistemology, or ways of knowing, on our own understanding of "The Body". We will examine cultural standards by which our bodies are judged AND to which our bodies speak back. We will engage with theory to re-create our bodies and/or re-value our bodies by honoring our deviations (rejections) of dominant cultural standards.
