Questions

“The Writer” also has a unique experience that none of the other two had. When Jaquet-Droz was exhibiting his automata in Spain, accused of heresy, the maker and its machine were both imprisoned by the Spanish Inquisition (xv, Wood). Here, a question arises.
What is it that the Spanish Inquisition saw that was so sacrilegious and fear inducing? Contrastingly, Jaquet-Droz’s automata also brought people all over the world just to see the magical machinery in action.
What had made Jaquet-Droz’s automata so intriguing?
What is the source of this fascination in automata?
