Epistemology

As the Scottish philosopher James Frederick Ferrier calls it the “theory of knowledge,” the term epistemology can be defined to be the study of the nature of knowledge. The field of epistemology consists of analyzing the limitations and validity of obtaining knowledge in various academics.

One example of an epistemological thinking would be when Neo in the movie the Matrix doubts whether the world he lives in is really the reality. Sometimes, this epistemological thinking can lead to new revelations in a person’s beliefs. In the Matrix this act of engaging in epistemological thinking is represented as Neo taking the red pill as after Morpheus tells him the truth that he was actually living in a virtual world of the Matrix. Other times, an epistemological thinking can lead to confirming of the conventional truth.
