A young population

The faces of students crowded around the stairs as they stage a walkout of their classes. During the 60s, the Mexican American community in LA was young, with around half of the population being under 20 (Sahagún). There was also no Mexican Americans on the city's local governing boards. Rather than waiting for adults to act, students took it upon themselves to act to better their education.
