Problem: The leader clearly communicates that he/she does not value the contributions of a follower
The leader clearly indicates that he/she does not value the contributions of a follower. The leader may also be underestimating the value of a particular follower's contribution.
WHY this may be a problem
An underappreciated follower may feel discourage, and so, too, may everyone, if they imagine their contributions will similarly go unappreciated. Followers may turn to another leader who will value and respect them more.
QUESTIONS to consider
What have leaders done for you in the past to make you feel appreciated?
What is your "language" of appreciation? In other words, what form do you like your appreciation to take? Praise? Affection/physical contact? Facial expressions? Rewards (pay, bonuses)? Titles? Additional authority/freedom?
What forms of appreciation are you best at showing when you hold a leadership position?
