Leaders may be, or seem to be, overly indulgent in food or wine because of their prosperity; their authority might also make them intoxicated.
WHY this may be a problem
Leaders who are seen as overly indulgent often lose credibility because they live more recklessly or more comfortably than the followers they are expected to serve. Literal (or metaphorical) intoxication may also be seen as an impediment to the leader's judgment.
QUESTIONS to consider
Should leaders abstain from various indulgences (food, drink, sex, drugs)?
Should they abstain from these indulgences just for the sake of keeping up appearances?
What are the forms of indulgence that can discredit modern leaders?
