Problem: the leader does not pull his/her weight on the mission
In highly competitive societies, like an army, leaders are often expected not only to command an army (a role which entails planning, strategy, diplomacy, and experience) but to excel as a warrior (a role which may entail personal bravery and risk-taking). The problem is that these roles may be contradictory. If the leader risks his life in battle and dies, the army may be without the plan of action that will ultimately preserve their safety and lead them to victory.
