Beyond the Boundaries of Fantasia: An ancient imagining of the future of leadership

Problem: the leader is expected to care for the well-being of the community even if it deprives him/her of some personal attachment

PROBLEM

The leader is expected to care for the well-being of the community even if it deprives him/her of some personal attachment. In this situation the leader is expected to regulate his/her emotional response and behavior.

In Iliad One Agamemnon is expected to care more for the safety of the Achaean army, even if it means losing someone (Chryseis) he prefers to his own wife Klytaimnestra.

WHY this might be a problem

A leader might lose interest in leading. Potential leaders might be discouraged from ever taking up the role.

QUESTIONS to consider

When you have held leadership positions in the past, what sacrifices did you have to make?

Did any of these sacrifices involve giving up or modifying certain relationships (e.g. friendships, romantic relationships)?

Did any of these sacrifices may you consider resigning from the leadership position?
