It is a memorial to the Irish Famine as well as a celebration of the Irish contribution to Australia. The artists who created it were Hossein and Angela Valamanesh. It began being built in September 1988 after being commissioned by Historic Houses Trust of New South Wales in collaboration with the Irish Famine Commemoration Committee and was finished in August 1999. This particular location is significant as in 1848 it was used as an immigration depot for unaccompanied female migrants, of which many were refugees of the Irish Famine. The glass panels featured in the pictures have the names of 400 orphan girls elegantly inscribed
