Star of the Sea : A Postcolonial/Postmodern Voyage into the Irish Famine

Lindsey Atchison is a Biology major with a Psychology minor at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. She is from Willmar, Minnesota. After graduation, Lindsey plans on attending graduate school for physical therapy. On this research project, she worked as a technical designer for the section of "Historical Figures".

Emily Bengtson
Emily Bengtson is an Instrumental Music Education major from Buffalo, Minnesota.  After her graduation from Concordia College in May 2016, Bengtson plans to teach band in the public school system.  On this research project, Emily worked on the design of the "Language and Music in Irish Culture" section.

Abbey Benson
Abbey Benson is a Business major with concentrations in Marketing and Organizational Leadership with an English writing minor. She is from Fargo, North Dakota and will graduate in May 2017. For this website, Abbey worked as a technical designer for the "Media" and "Memorials" sections. 

Heather Campbell
Heather Campbell is a Biology major with minors in Chemistry and Vaccinology. She is from Roseville, Minnesota. After graduating in May 2016 she is planning on taking a gap year before pursuing a PhD in Cancer or Cell Biology. Heather worked on the "Biology of the Famine" section.

Maren Connell
Maren Connell is a double major in Biology and Global Studies with a focus in Development Studies. She is also pursuing a minor in Chinese. Her plans for after her graduation in 2019 include applying to medical school with the end goal of specializing in emergency medicine. On this project, Maren worked as a page designer for the "Language and Music in Irish Culture.

Ben Deetz
Ben is currently a junior at Concordia College who is pursuing an English Literature major with a Coaching minor. He is from Sioux Falls, SD. He contributed by researching and writing content for the "Star of the Sea Overview" pages, the "Memorials" page, and the "Media" page.  

Michaila Gerlach
Michaila Gerlach is an English Literature major and Communications major and grew up in Oak Grove, Minnesota.  After graduating in May 2016, she is taking a gap year before pursuing her master's in library science for children and young adults. She had the privilege to study in Galway, Ireland during the fall semester of 2015 and researched and wrote content for the "Language and Music in Irish Culture" and "Star of the Sea Overview" pages.

Austin Gerth
Austin Gerth is an English Writing and Philosophy double major from Princeton, Minnesota. After graduating in May 2016 he intends to get some sort of job, do as much freelance writing as he can, and read a lot of books; graduate school - either an MFA or film program - may follow. He researched and wrote content for the "Postmodernism" and "Biology of the Famine" sections of the website.

Audrey Gunn
Audrey Gunn is an English Literature and German major from Eagan, Minnesota. After graduation in May 2016, she hopes to pursue a master's degree in library science. Audrey wrote the content for the "Historical Figures" and "Other Works by Joseph O'Connor" sections of the website.

 Ashley Hacker
Ashley Hacker is a History major from Buffalo, Minnesota. She graduates from Concordia College in May 2016. On this research project, Hacker worked on the design of the "Landlords, Tenants, and Evictions" section.

Lincoln Haiby
Lincoln Haiby is a Chemistry major from Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, and will graduate in May 2019. On this project, Lincoln contributed to the design of the "Biology of the Famine" section.

Derek Heilig
Derek Heilig is an English Writing major and minoring in both History and Business. He is from Forest Lake, Minnesota and will graduate from Concordia College in 2017. For this project, Derek worked as the technical designer for the "Postcolonial Theory" section. 

Bailey Houle
Bailey Houle is a Biology major with minors in both Chemistry and Vaccinology. She is from Cambridge, Minnesota and will graduate from Concordia College in May of 2016. She will ultimately be pursuing a PhD in Molecular Biology, where she will follow up in an industry career. On this project, she acted as one of the technical designers for the "Biology of the Famine" section.

John Huebner
John Huebner is a Mathematics major from Morris, MN.  After he graduates in May 2019, he plans on going to graduate school for engineering.  For this project, John worked on the technical design of the "Landlords, Tenants, and Evictions" section.

Krystal Jamison
Krystal Jamison is a Spanish and Physics major with a Math minor at Concordia College. She is a freshman from Saint Paul, Minnesota. During this project, Krystal helped with the technical design of the “The Gothic in Star of the Sea” section.

Sara Juntunen
Sara Juntunen is a Communication major, minoring in both Business and English Writing. She is from Oulu, Finland, and is graduating from Concordia College in May 2016. After graduation, she plans to stay in the Fargo-Moorhead area for work. For this project, Sara was on the technical design team for "Postcolonial Theory" and "Postmodern Theory". However, her main contributions were on the "Postcolonial Theory" section.

Kalai Laizer
Kalai Laizer is an English with Communication Arts/Literature Education major. She was born and raised in Arusha, Tanzania. After graduation in May 2016, she aspires to go back home and teach English to high school students. On this research, Kalai researched and wrote the content for the "About Joseph O'Connor" and "Landlords, Tenants, and Evictions" sections.

Sarah Liebig
Sarah Liebig is a double major in English Writing and Global Studies with a minor in Political Science. She is from Lincoln, Nebraska. Following her graduation in May 2017, Sarah will be attending law school for either civil or criminal law. For this project, Sarah worked on the technical design team for "Historical Figures."

Madison Luke
Madison Luke is an Elementary Education Major with a concentration in Latin from Andover, Minnesota. After her graduation from Concordia College in May 2018, she plans to teach in Minnesota public schools. For this project, Madison worked on the technical design aspect of the "Star of the Sea Overview" section.

Amanda Lundeen
Amanda Lundeen is majoring in English writing and minoring in Women's and Gender Studies.  She will graduate in May of 2017 with aspirations to be a writer.  For this project, Amanda contributed to the "Government Policies and Emigration" section.

Casey Max 
Casey Max is a junior studying English Literature at Concordia College. She is from Minneapolis, Minnesota and aspires to work in the publishing field as an editor after graduation. For this project, Casey was the sole technical designer of the "Joseph O'Connor" section. 

Andrew Olsen
Andrew Olsen is a Biology/Chemistry major. He is from Moorhead, Minnesota. After graduating in May 2016, Andrew will be taking a gap year to work at a biotechnology company before returning to school to obtain his PhD in Cancer Biology. Andrew worked on the "Overview" section. 

Ellen-Marie Pedersen
Ellen-Marie Pedersen is an English Literature major with a minor in History and she was born and raised in Holmestrand, Norway. After her graduation in May 2016, she will move somewhere in the United Kingdom after a summer working in Norway. On this project, she researched and wrote the sections on "Postcolonial Theory" and "Government Policies and Emigration". 

Elizabeth Pilon
Elizabeth Pilon is an English with Communication Arts/Literature Education major.  After she graduates in December 2016, she will be the 8th grade English teacher in Grafton, ND, which is also her hometown.  For this project, Elizabeth served as a technical designer for the "Postmodernism" path.  

Derek Rachel
Derek Rachel is a Concordia College senior from Maple Lake, MN. He is majoring in Business and minoring in Construction Management and will graduate May, 2016. Derek contributed as a technical designer for the "Govenment Policies and Emigratioin" sections of the website.

Ellen Rethwisch
Ellen Rethwisch is pursuing a degree in English writing with a minor in business.  She is from Plymouth, Minnesota, and will graduate from Concordia College in May, 2017.  Ellen contributed as a technical designer for the "Media" and "Memorials" sections of the website.

Carissa Rodenbiker
Carissa is a Concordia College senior from Sauk Centre, Minnesota.  She is majoring in Biology and minoring in both Chemistry and Women’s & Gender Studies.  After graduating, she hopes to pursue a career in genetic counseling.  For this project, Carissa worked on the technical design of the section “The Gothic in Star of the Sea.”

Sarah Swansen
Sarah Swansen is an English Literature major with a minor in Communication at Concordia College. She is from Albertville, Minnesota and will graduate in May 2016. Sarah studied at the National University of Ireland Galway during the spring of 2015. On this project, she researched and wrote the content for “The Gothic in Star of the Sea” and for sections under “Postmodernism.”
