Sounding Childhood

We Wish You a Merry Christmas

"We wish you a Merry Christmas!" is still sung so frequently at Christmastime that we might forget how old it really is: an English carol of the folksong tradition.  English composer and conductor Arthur Warrell (1883–1939) brought it to the general public when arranging it for his University of Bristol Madrigal Singers in 1935.  It is a wonderful way to wrap up any Christmas concert, as we did walking out of the theatre, concert hall, and here, for residents of the Leland Legacy in Richmond, Indiana, and for a radio crowd as well.
