"The flowers that bloom in the spring"
'The Flowers that Bloom in the Spring', by Gilbert & Sullivan is not a song of the Victorian era that one would necessarily associate with children. It is, after all, a parody of "spring songs" used jokingly in Gilbert & Sullivan's comic opera, The Mikado (1885). But it was found in in a children's songbook, One Hundred and One Best Songs, published in Chicago, no date but around the turn of the century. And it turned out to be a favorite among the singers of the camp, probably because of the engaging tune and "tra, la, la, la!"'
