Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

Issues with ignoring Race
12016-05-03T00:54:30-07:00Michie Ortiz25daabac1577ec1d12a68b2c0b0a15c4dba1374b88771plain2016-05-03T00:54:30-07:00Michie Ortiz25daabac1577ec1d12a68b2c0b0a15c4dba1374bWhen thinking about the White name generator article I thought of the this article I read where a Frenchman used a Chinese pseudonym to get his art to sell. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/china/11980720/Chinese-artist-Tao-Hongjing-reveals-hes-a-Frenchman-called-Alexandre.html I feel like it's kinda similar since this was taking place in China. I'll play devil's advocate here because it made me think a bit. I'm curious and wonder if this would make you mad, but not mad when a minority takes on a White pseudonym to get a job and so on.
Because race cannot change does not mean it should be ignored. In fact, it is more of a reason to take into consideration. Experiences are all different based off your race and location. Race is important to shaping a person's experience. How your parents educate you, mannerisms, and what you eat. That being said, just how it was mentioned that an Asian kid was being bullied because he was different to what the other children have experienced. Taking into consideration someone's race can allow you to understand them better. It's like an American company doing business with a foreign country and expecting them to ignore their cultural practices because it's different. They don't, you shouldn't either. However, teaching your children how to handle people of different race is also important or else you might end up being racist without actually realizing it.
