The International Prester John Project: How A Global Legend Was Created Across Six Centuries

Gomes Eanes de Zurara

Gomes Eanes de Zurara (c. 1410-1474) reported on House of Avis during the Age of Discovery as Portugal's chief archivist and chronicler from 1454 until his death. In his chronicles, he frequently depicts Henry the Navigator as something between a national hero and a romance protagonist.

Zurara was the author of two treatises relevant to the Age of Discovery discourse on Prester John. See both his Crónica of the attack on Cueta as well as his Crónica of Henry the Navigator's explorations in Guinea
