Jean le Long

Born in Ypres, Jean le Long (c.a. 1315-1383) was a  French Benedictine monk and later the abbot of of St. Bertin in Saint-Omer, France. Although an accomplished ecclesiastic, Jean achieved fame for his translations of Latin texts into French. His French translation of Odoric of Pordenone's Travels, titled Le Chemin, brought the increasingly popular tales of Eastern travels to a wider audience.
