Vanity did not motivate him to build this house, but rather he built it to restore the ancient splendor of Rome. In beautiful houses, remember the tombs and be sure that you will not be there for long, death comes with wings and life is eternal for no one, our journey is brief and its course fleeting. Even if you flee the wind, if you close a hundred doors, or command a thousand guards, you will not lie down to rest without death. Even if you close yourself in a castle as high as the stars, death can take whomever she wants. This sublime house reaches the stars, whose culmination, the great Nicholas, first among the firsts, built from the foundations to renew the grandeur of his parents, Crescenzio, his father, and Theodora his mother. The father constructed this illustrious building dedicated to his beloved son David. B. Avanzo delle Mura, e delle Torricelle del Campidoglio sotto la Scuderia del Palazzo Cafarelli E. Altre mure antichissime di peperino brugiate dal fuoco con avanzi delle volte de Corridoj quali veggonsi nell’orticello Savelli dietro le stalle del Palazzo sudetto F. Title: Plan of the lower floor of the Palace of the Caesars, believed to be the Palatine Baths. Key: A. Peristyle, or Courtyard with surrounding porticoes. B. Noble hall with a round opening in the middle of the archway, or vault, that illuminated the space. C. Octagonal room, also with an opening in the middle of the archway. D. Washrooms and corridors with painted vaults. E. Backrooms that were nobly adorned with inlaid marble decoration. F. Small courtyards on this floor were ornamented with arched porticoes sustained by quadrangular pilasters. G. Rooms corresponding to the porticoes of the aforementioned courtyards. H. Similar rooms that accessed one of the octagonal rooms. I. Stairs that descended from the upper floor to this one. K.
