Our Dark Materials: Rediscovering an Egyptian Collection

Henry Ludwig Frederick Lutz

(1886-1973)

Henry Lutz was an American Assyriologist, Egyptologist, and linguist. He took an assistant professor position at the University of California, Berkeley in 1921 and remained there until his death in 1973. He served as an Associate Curator of the Anthropology Museum from 1929 until 1954. Lutz evaluated Stanford's Egyptian collection in 1953, paying special attention to items of historic, aesthetic, or epigraphic significance, items from pharaonic periods, and items that survived the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.
