Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

(The tool is a Scalar plugin and might not be present if the administrator of your Scalar install hasn't installed it separately from Scalar itself.)
To import content from another Scalar book saved as a JSON file, follow the steps below:
1. Head to the Utilities tab in the Dashboard. 2. Once in the Utilities tab, select the Import section in the left sidebar. 3. Select “Upload file.” 4. Browse your computer and find the JSON file you wish to upload. 5. Click "Continue" on the bottom right. 6. Once the JSON has been validated, a pop up box containing the source JSON will appear. Click "Import" at the bottom right of the pop up box.
