Constructing a Culture

Sensible Schooling

The world was at a crossroads when three influential educators at the University of Wisconsin decided to do their part to promote progress in education. World War II had ended in Europe only months before and was still drawing to a close in Japan when the first edition of See and Hear: The Journal of Audio-Visual Education was published.

Like the larger world, the world of education was also at a crossroads. Schools were educating more students than ever before. educators, lobbyists, politicians and parents all struggled for control of public education and the funding that fueled it.

As the battle raged over the future of education, teachers had to fight for what they thought were the best ways to educate students. How they taught the youth of America became just as important as what they taught them.
