Development story of the Angry Birds

The Angry Birds game, developed by Rovio Entertainment, broke the record of 500 million downloads by November 2011 (Hamburger). This viral game was originally conceived as one of the proposal ideas in 2009 for the Rovio Entertainment to start developing its own games. The idea of the game began as a single screenshot featuring the earlier version of the well-known big red bird. The character on that screenshot drew interest, and thus the idea was given permission to develop further (Rigney). As the original concept of the Angry Birds game had only consisted of a group of angry birds fighting off some sort of an enemy, the first step towards making the game commercial was to specify this enemy. This coincided with the period when the swine flu epidemic had reached its highest scare, the enemy that the birds would fight was created to be a group of "sickly" green pigs (Mundy). The creation story of the game Angry Birds shows that the purpose of the Angry Birds’ characters had been clearly direct towards the commercial use of the artwork.
