Wild

Malia Barto

Eyes were struggling to stay open
The sun shone through the window
beaming on his sleepy face
Pine, birch, spruce
Passing by the endless trees
heading
up, north
The sky was an off-shade of blue
kind of gray
raining but slowly
subsiding
Traveling on bridges
over endless creeks
once in a while stopping
in the middle of the road
to let a wild animal casually cross
The rain-boots were tucked in the trunk
probably still with some
fish guts lingering on the
soles
next to the cooler
with that week’s dinner
The rain lessened the farther north
and soon the panorama
of woodland beauty turned into
buildings and vehicles
Hustle and bustle
and no longer
serene with nature
Malia Barto is pursuing a Baccalaureate of Journalism & Public Communication.
