Birds n' Bogs

Amanda Sassi & Whitney Flores

The film, Birds n’ Bogs, was a creation and collaboration by Amanda Sassi and Whitney Flores. The Audubon Society of Alaska has a citizen science program called Birds n’ Bogs. The founder, Dr. Audrey Taylor, was interviewed for this project and it is this interview that is spliced together and timed with the relevant photos used in the short citizen science project. This citizen science project relies on volunteers whom are trained in bird identification and data collection. The movie describes why citizen science is crucial to research and why having citizen scientist volunteers allows a wider breadth of data collection, providing a more accurate picture of migrating bird species in Alaska, primarily those found in wetlands.
Amanda Sassi received a Baccalaureate of Environment & Society with a Minor in Anthropology in 2017.
Whitney Flores received a Baccalaureate of Environment & Society with a Minor in Nutrition in 2017.
