Sounding Childhood

Once in Royal David's City

"Once in Royal David's City" is a lovely hymn written expressly for children by the important Victorian hymnwriter for children, Cecil Frances Alexander.  It was a part of her Hymns for Children (1848) as she took apart the Anglican Church's Book of Common Prayer and made each principle into a hymn which children could understand. This hymn represented its section about the birth of Christ.
