The King of Devil's Island, 2011 Norwegian Amanda Awards winner for Best Film, is set in Norway during the winter of 1915. The film depicts the lifestyles of the young, troubled boys who were sent to Bastøy Island for imprisonment. Their daily, sadistic routines, as ordered by the governor and the brutal housefather of the island, take both a mental and physical toll on the boys. Upon the arrival of Erling, a new boy with a regime of his own, things on the island begin to change. Will his intentions to escape lead to a revolt or only further harshen the conditions experienced by the boys? |
