After her husband becomes sick and dies shortly after opening a new grocery store, Ingeborg Holm and her children become victims to the Swedish poor law system and lose everything they worked for. Considered by many film critics to be possibly one of the first films to have a significant influence on the course of historical events, Ingeborg Holm has been highly praised for its social impacts, helping to bring change to the Swedish Poor Laws.
