Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

Setting Up Netgear Orbi
12024-07-16T22:43:51-07:00Anonymous88771plain2024-07-16T22:43:51-07:00GeneshsolThe Netgear Orbi system is a popular choice for extending WiFi coverage throughout your home or office. It offers a robust mesh network that ensures seamless connectivity in every corner of your space. Setting up the Orbi system is straightforward, but it’s essential to follow the steps carefully to ensure optimal performance.
Steps for Setting Up Netgear Orbi: Unbox and Prepare: Begin by unboxing your Orbi router and satellite units. Place the router in a central location and the satellite in an area where you need better WiFi coverage.
Connect the Router: Plug the Orbi router into your modem using the provided Ethernet cable. Then, connect the router to a power source and wait for the power LED to turn solid white, indicating it’s ready.
Power On the Satellite: Position the Orbi satellite within range of the router. Connect it to a power source and wait for the power LED to turn solid white.
Sync the Devices: Press the Sync button on the Orbi router and then on the satellite within two minutes. The satellite’s LED will pulse white and then turn solid blue, indicating a successful connection. If it turns amber or magenta, the connection is weak or failed, and you may need to reposition the satellite.
Download the Orbi App: Install the Orbi app on your smartphone or tablet. The app is available on both iOS and Android platforms. Follow the in-app instructions to complete the setup process, including naming your network and setting a password.
Update Firmware: Check for any firmware updates through the Orbi app or web interface. Keeping your firmware up to date ensures you have the latest features and security enhancements.
Optimize Placement: Use the Orbi app to test the signal strength and ensure that both the router and satellite are optimally placed for the best coverage.
