Memoranda to the president regarding situation in Czechoslovakia and advised response discussed with Jacob Beam and Secretary Rusk.  Discussions of Czechoslovakia’s need for Western financial support and possibility of conferring Most Favored Nation status.  Included reports reveal ongoing negotiation with Czech government over gold and restitution of seized Western assets.  Report on East German fears of Czech influence on society. Long memo describing Major General Jan Šejna’s assertion that both Eastern Europe and Soviet Union are fed up with Castro.  Further, the memo describes Czechoslovakia’s general fatigue with financing revolution abroad.
