Plants & People: The Intersection of Botany and Human Experience

Name Mixup

There may be an error in naming the Morinda citrifolia because Linnaeus’ description of M. citrifolia refers to 2 illustrations, with one of them being less well-known, M. coreia, and the more well-known, M. citrifolia. A holotype was not designated for M. coreia, so they selected M. citrifolia as a lectotype for M. coreia. So far, recent literature is filing M. citrifolia under a new name called M. nodosa instead of M. citrifolia.
