Peretz Smolenskin

Peretz Smolenskin (1842–1885) was a maskilic writer. He was founder and editor of the Hebrew journal Ha-Shaḥar (The Dawn), as well as a novelist and short-story writer. Perets Smolenskin’s popular writingd influenced the consolidation of a nationalist Haskalah movement and Zionist ideology.
